  • Breanna will be presenting a full day session "Diagnosing and Treating Childhood Apraxia of Speech
    • Abstract: Diagnosing and treating Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) can be challenging for many clinicians. The nature of the disorder requires that in order to effectively treat CAS, therapists must make a paradigm shift in their thinking, switching from a focus on language and sound production to thinking about movement gestures. Guidelines for evaluating pre-verbal and verbal children will be discussed and criteria for determining when to use therapy based on movement will be elucidated.

  • Breanna will be presenting a session titled "How to Get Started? When There's More than Apraxia"
    • Abstract: Effectively treating a child with Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) requires that the SLP implement therapy based on the principles of motor learning. However, many children with CAS also struggle with sensory processing, emotional regulation, and/or social communication. Combining the SCERTS model with apraxia therapy is one approach that can be beneficial when treating these children.
